Detroit Community Schools

The mission of Detroit Community Schools, located in the Brightmoor neighborhood in Northwest Detroit, is to awaken students’ highest aspirations and develop the capabilities they need to lead purposeful and productive lives.  DCS believes that all students should be prepared to enter college, pursue a career or engage in other forms of meaningful work in our ever-changing global society.  DCS offers a rigorous educational program that integrates academic, artistic, and experiential learning within a supportive community characterized by encouragement, collaboration, and mutual respect.

Compás Center of Music and Performing Arts Southwest

Compás provides high quality performing arts training and experiences, with an emphasis on the rich Latino digerati of the area, to youth and adults in Southwest Detroit.

Semester in Detroit

Semester in Detroit transforms U-M students through reciprocal relationships with the people, organizations, and neighborhoods of Detroit. By living, learning, and working in the city,  students engage with community leaders in transformative work – strengthening themselves as well as the wider region.

Neighbors Building Brightmoor

Neighbors Building Brightmoor is a group of neighbors dedicated to mobilizing, equipping, and helping each other to create a beautiful, healthy and sustainable community for ourselves and our children.

Brightmoor Alliance

The Brightmoor Alliance is focused on mobilizing resources to help ensure a vibrant community where residents can pray, grow, learn, thrive and play. Serving northwest Detroit’s Brightmoor community, we work with our member organizations to revitalize our community by addressing issues such as: schools, employment, safety, housing, human services, shopping and recreation.

Pewabic Pottery

Pewabic Pottery is a living treasure and offers visitors an exciting glimpse of a little known part of American history.  It was founded in 1903 by artist Mary Chase Perry Stratton for her studio and pottery. Today Pewabic is a non-profit ceramic design studio, education center and National Historic Landmark. Welcoming local, U.S. and international visitors, Pewabic is open all year long. It is Pewabic’s mission to engage people in learning experiences with contemporary ceramic art and artists and to promote and preserve their historic legacy.

James and Grace Lee Boggs Center

Our mission is to nurture the transformational leadership capacities of individuals and organizations committed to creating productive, sustainable, ecologically responsible, and just communities. Through local, national and international networks of activists, artists and intellectuals we foster new ways of living, being and thinking to face the challenges of the 21st century.

Earthworks Urban Farm

Earthworks is a program of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, seeking to promote sustainable agricultural practices, nutrition and care for the Earth. We strive for peace, respect and harmony between Neighbor and Nature. It is a working study in social justice, as well as in being more connected to the food we eat.

Summer in the City

Summer in the City is a dynamic non-profit that is changing the impact of volunteers on Detroit and of Detroit on volunteers. By bringing a diverse group of young people together to invest their energy in Detroit, Summer in the City programs address the immediate needs of city neighborhoods and foster a regional mindset.

The Detroit Partnership

The Detroit Partnership seeks to unite the University of Michigan and Detroit through fulfilling community partnerships. As a multicultural organization, The Detroit Partnership strive to raise awareness, break stereotypes, and promote social justice through service-learning programs.

Living Arts

Living Arts is dedicated to strengthening the neighborhoods of Southwest Detroit by cultivating an environment that sparks the imagination and fosters ingenuity through the arts and community development initiatives.

The Boulevard House

The Boulevard House aims to create a placed-based residential space for campus-community collaborative work in the southwest Detroit neighborhoods of Hubbard-Richard and Hubbard Farms.

Peoples Community Services of Metropolitan Detroit

People’s Community Services of Metropolitan Detroit focuses on assisting those in need obtain basic needs in crisis situations and develop a self-sufficiency plan that will move them from crisis mode to a sense of stability.
